COMBUSTABLE EDISON

The stage of Lee's Palace was pristinely arranged ... efficient drum kit, stylish xylophone, fantastically glittery guitar, tiny perfect bongos, big beautifully lacquered standing bass, classy curtained keyboards.

The instruments stood on stage for several hours, an elegant display while the "opening act", well known Toronto DJ and scenester Sir Spinner Fine Vinyl revved up the crowd with his exotic hi-fi selections.

A DJ was a smashing choice to get the crown into a mingling mood and established the just right cocktail ambiance for the main attraction, the band we were all there to see -- the delightful Combustible Edison.

Exotica swinger cocktail spy nation bossa super nova jazz torch songs sun and surf outer space rakish scoundrels sinister millionaires and all things swank -- this is the Combustible Edison Idiom.

Imagine the House Band at the Devil's Cocktail Parties on Venus. The four men dressed in dreamy stunning space set silver glitter robes, the lovely and breathtakingly talented female lead singer and multi instrumentalist, Lilith, in an elegant evening gown.

The guitarist was the voice of the band between songs, announcing, explaining, and generally pandering to the audience. His bald head and mega goofy facial expressions, silly banter and generous praise of the audience and the city, in true lounge lizard fashion, endeared him to the audience.

Lilith mesmerized the crowd, besides being blessed with a highly captivating presence, she sings, whistles, plays the mouth organ and all sorts of percussion.

The band was flawless, they sound every bit as perfect live as they do recorded after performing their first set, they showed their film -- an entertaining treat of modernists dadaists delirium, magic, snazzy outfits, female wrestlers, trains and a great great soundtrack the film had it all.

The band did their second set after the film and the people of Toronto we're ecstatic, pounding glasses, tables and feet rhythmically to seduce the band into doing three encores.

Combustible Edison at Lee's Palace, this was the show of the year.
