LASERBABIES

Introducing the Laserbabies. John on bass, Vince on Guitar and the cutest Laserbaby of them all, OK DAMN IT they’re all cute but we can’t forget Damian on keyboards.

My first question and the question that most bands just CRINGE when they here. "How would you describe your ‘sound’?" "No problem with labels we can define it." A Laserbaby cries! "New wave grind pop. Very heavy guitars, keyboards, blend of heavy death metal, using bass as melodic yet harmonious instrument, new wave strange keyboard layering, vocals pop oriented, unconventional harmonies."

Laserbabies have wide ranges of influences. Everything from classical music to underground. Structured music with a unique sound. Unique is the best way to describe it. Not the kind of "Unique" you might say at a gallery with a painting that really stands out and sucks but the kind of ‘Unique’ that intrigues you and makes you want more… Kind of like a drug...

A drum machine gives them the industrial sound blended with sound effects while retaining a human feel to the music. It seems that anything off the beaten path turns these guys on. They are struggling to bring something new into the world, because their are just so fucking bored with everything. They can’t listen to radio , watching TV makes them angry, and they would prefer to feed their brain with really weird underground things.

"Laserbabies the name came to him in a dream" says Vince. He found the meaning afterwards as originally it had no meaning. Laser being revolutionary in the scientific sense, babies being young lads and a young band. Playing music they believe they are superior. When asked to "define superior" it came back as songs with song structure. Their songs are epical pieces. "Going back to radio, things don’t go past the four chords mark, most music is regressing."

When listening to the Laserbabies "You can dance and freak out to it but also on the level where you can sit down and listen to it. Totally universal."

They are interested in hooking up with a record label and getting on with their lives. "Getting the hell out of here!" Here being Brampton, Ontario. The band is eternally optimistic and know they are going to make it. That’s what I just LOVED about this band. No one word answers, no half thoughts or wits and an amazing attitude. Who could ask for more?

"There are so many bands and people aren’t even coming out to shows anymore. People that do come out don’t even pay attention. People are told what to like. Whatever CFNY is playing is suddenly ‘cool’."

As we changed pace and started discussing the recording process it seems like this band, although only being together 1 year and a half have seen it all, good and bad. "People don’t know what they are doing in the studio. They don’t want to create something new and put that extra amount of energy into it." Based on their recording experience. Their first studio engineer watched TV while the demo was being recorded while engineer number two had everything to 10 and said "yeah whatever sounds good as long as you got the cash." The more studio experience the Laserbabies get the more they feel that they can take care of things themselves...

Anxious to meet the right person/people to bring them to the next step in the music industry they are also they want EVERYONE to hear their music. They don’t want to sound like they are coming out of left field. They wrote the music to be consumed by the public, so people can let loose, have fun get into it, get stoned and enjoy it and they can be landmark songs in their lives.

The great thing about this band is not only are they articulate, intelligent, forever the optimistic band but they ROCK TOO! Too many times you hear bands telling you that they are great but after hearing this tape I as BLOWN AWAY. Their classical training, unconventional influences and attitude have really paid off!

They don’t have a release that is ready for airplay or represents the band as a whole. Their next step is to go for the best quality in a state of the art studio. Nothing less would be good enough for this band and their wicked sound.

Ok... here comes the bad news. They don’t have a release. NO folks you can’t get this tape anywhere and its mine, mine ALL MINE! You can always see the Laserbabies at their shows in Toronto and hell if you are setting up a gig bring these guys down to play. You’ll be glad you did!! !
