ACTION ALERT!

Hon. Chris Hodgson Ministry of Natural Resources 6th Floor, Whitney Block Queen's Park Toronto, Ontario M7A 1W3 September 24, 1996 Dear Sir: I am writing to you regarding the current logging operations that are now occurring at the Owain Lake area of Temagami. Given that Old-Growth White Pine occupies less that one percent of it's original range. That the forestry industry has already had access to ninety-nine percent of the original ecosystem which is more than fair access to resources and promotion of the industry. That economic analysis indicates an ecotourism industry is of greater long term economic value. That as Ontario's provincial tree the White Pine and in particular Old-Growth White Pine is an important historical and cultural icon for the people of Ontario. That Old-Growth is a unique and vital ecosystem that must be preserved. And the Old Growth is a valuable part of my personal environment. Until such time as Old Growth White Pine ecosystems are adequately represented anything less that 100% protection does not serve the interests of the people of Ontario. I am asking you to please take the appropriate actions to immediately protect the Owain Lake White Pine Old-Growth stand. Sincerely, John Q. Public
