PRESS RELEASE:

McIntosh "Launches" her Work to New "Heights"

Winnipeg

Winnipeg composer/performance artist Diana McIntosh is set to take audiences on a voyage through the history of flight in her Slipping the Bonds - From Birds to Bondar, a newly created multimedia theatrical piece featuring the voice of Roberta Bondar, Canada's first female astronaut.

McIntosh will launch the world premiere of Slipping the Bonds, on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, April 9, 10, & 11 at the Planetarium Theatre in Winnipeg. A 55-minute flight of fancy in true McIntosh-style about birds, planes and pioneers in space, Slipping the Bonds is a magic blend of music, words, acting, stunning visuals and the voice of Bondar, revealing her life-long fascination with flight and her experiences in orbit.

"Actually interviewing Roberta Bondar, this amazing woman - astronaut, doctor, pilot, photographer, parachutist, environmentalist - was fascinating and surprising in many ways," says McIntosh. "I'm delighted that she was willing to talk to me about her incredible experiences".

Like Bondar, McIntosh has also held a long-time interest in flight and space travel, although she does her own exploring through her music theatre works and mountain climbing. She has delighted audiences and critics across Canada, in the United States and Europe, and developed a high profile for her inter-disciplinary works which express her unique creativity and wit.

Slipping The Bonds - From birds to Bondar takes flight at 8:00 each evening. Tickets are $10. each, $8. for students and seniors, and are available at the door. For further information and a brief preview of the show, call 989-3828.
