EASTERN CANADA TOUR 1997

DIANA McINTOSH will perform, "Beryl Markham - Flying West With The Night", her one-woman musical theatre piece with original music for piano and tape. The text is from Markham's fascinating autobiography, West With the Night - the true story of the gutsy and witty pioneer English pilot who learned to fly in the African bush, and became the first person to fly solo from England to North America, in 1936.

Also on her programs are five shorter original music theatre pieces created by McIntosh - "Eliptosonics", for piano and spoken text, a satire on a "complex" avant garde piano work; "Doubletalk", for tape and voice, an entertaining dialogue with 2 loudspeakers; "knee-deep in clouds", for piano, tape and voice, an evocative description of a high mountain bivouac, using a dramatic poem by New Brunswick author Liliane Welch; "Go Between", a piano and tape piece written to capture the mysterious atmosphere of L. P. Hartley's novel The Go Between; and "...and 8:30 In Newfoundland", for extended vocal techniques, percussion and digital processor, an outrageous piece about Newfoundland being half an hour out of phase with the rest of Canada.
