6pm Discussion: Moving Sounds - with David Eagle, Kenneth Newby, Wende Bartley & Sarah Peebles

7pm RICHARD WINDEYER and DARREN COPELAND (Toronto) - The Toronto Sound Mosaic

These two active members of the Canadian Association for Sound Ecology draw from experience with theatrical and acousmatic sound to explore the soundscape of Toronto's past and present.

DAVID BEREZAN (Calgary) - Unheard Voices, Ancient Spaces

This new work recently won awards from the Edmonton Composers Concert Society's Young Composers Competition and the Times/Play Competition. A Canadian composer to watch out for in the years ahead.

8pm SARAH PEEBLES (Toronto) - Where the Wild Things Went

"Sarah Peebles has one of the most careful and subtle ears of any composer of musique concrte working today." - Terra Nova Journal (MIT Press)

DAVID EAGLE (Calgary) - Prelude for aXiO and Audiobox

Eagle's work is influenced by an interest in cycles and transformations observed in nature. He performs on an unusual electronic instrument called the aXiO which triggers sounds from a midi keyboard and moves them in space with a palm-rest joystick.

WENDE BARTLEY (Toronto) - DreamSpin

Bartley uses innovative sonic textures in her recent explorations of voice as sacred communicator and healer.

9pm KENNETH NEWBY (British Columbia) with U.S. poet Robert Anthony - Seasonal Round

HILDEGARD WESTERKAMP (British Columbia) - Garden of the Sonic Labyrinth

An accomplished composer, educator and radio artist, Westerkamp's use of environmental sound draws attention to the inner, hidden spaces of the environment we inhabit.

4pm HANS PETER STUBBE TEGLBJ®RG (Denmark) - Hanstholm

In Hanstholm, this composer of instrumental and vocal works draws from the forceful winds and waves in a town located along Denmark's northwest coast.

HILDEGARD WESTERKAMP (British Columbia) - Kits Beach Soundwalk

A soundscape inquiry into a Vancouver beach not unlike the ones found on Toronto Island.

DIRK VEULEMANS (Belgium) - Wind

Veulemans' history with traditional folk groups across Europe and his study of instrument building led to this soundscape composition drawn from sounds recorded at the workrooms of the barrel-organ builder Verbeeck.

HILDEGARD WESTERKAMP (British Columbia) - Talking Rain

A subtle meditation on the rhythms and nuances of a keynote west coast sound.

CHANTAL DUMAS (Montreal) - L'eau imposture

Dumas is an award-winning sound artist (EAR '97 International Electroacoustic Competition, 7th Phonurgia Nova/France) who uses her favourite medium - radio - to explore methods of narration through sound.
