Commissioning/Residency Opportunity

A residency, broadcast and performance opportunity provided by New Adventures in Sound Art, Charles Street Video and CBC Out Front.

As part of the 2nd annual radio art festival "Deep Wireless," Canadian artists of all disciplines and Canadian freelance radio producers have the opportunity to be an artist-in-residence at Charles Street Video (in Toronto) to produce a new work for radio less than 12 minutes in length that combines personal narrative with an innovative and expressive use of sound.

Artists-in-residence will produce their work using the audio suites of Charles Street Video and in consultation with a producer from CBC "Out Front."

Stereo versions of the proposed work are to be finished by May 1, 2003 for radio broadcast. Following their completion, versions for an octaphonic spatialization system will be realized for a New Adventures in Sound Art concert presentation. Both the radio broadcasts and performances are scheduled to take place in May 2003.

Artists are required to be in Toronto for the work's production and presentation. They are also required to participate in the public seminars and panel discussions for Deep Wireless workshops.

Purpose of the Residency:

* To inspire new approaches to the narrative form that explore the possibilities of sound.
* To think of radio beyond the stereo frame and approach it as a multi-dimensional listening experience.

All applications for the commission/residency must be received by 4 PM on February 24, 2003.

Send applications to: CBC "Out Front"
