The action for which our descendants are least likely to forgive us is the loss of genetic and species diversity by the destruction of natural habitats. Unless we curtail our activities in these areas, the effects of the loss of such a large portion of species will have the most serious long-term consequences, of even longer duration than the unthinkable outcome of nuclear war, famine and political turmoil.
