  • Bin Laden Tape – Sequel to the Running Man – Dec.13.2001

Stephen King's "The Running Man" takes place in a tacky America where a dumbed-down public watches executions on a television game show. Ben is the hero played by Arnold Swartzenegger. Convicted by a video that shows him as the Butcher of Bakersfield, Ben ends up running for his life, followed by cameras and various executioners. Characters like BuzzSaw and Captain Freedom fail to carve him up and in the end the tape is revealed as doctored. Ben was the hero, who had tried to prevent the massacre, but was convicted by a corrupt Network Television Government.

Now we have a new version of "The Running Man" starring Osama bin Laden. Convicted on television by a video tape, bin Laden must run for his life as George Bush prepares to send out BuzzSaw and Captain Freedom to execute him. As the ravening mob, we get to watch it on TV, weeping for the victims in New York and in the end cheering as bin Laden gets chopped up, strangled, burned alive or zapped.

There is no need for a trial now that we have seen the "smoking gun" video. As a matter of fact, bin Laden couldn't get a fair trial anywhere in the world anyway. How could you put together a jury when everyone is biased and believes he is guilty beyond a shadow of doubt?

If one thing makes this even more ridiculous it is the poor quality of the video. It is so dark you can't even tell who is in it. For a moment I thought it was Fidel Castro confessing to the September 11th crimes. A female friend openly laughed at the video, calling it a fake, and saying that bin Laden was probably wishing his granddaughter a happy birthday before they altered the sound track.

Of course they won't reveal the circumstances under which this video was discovered.  Like all other news on the terrorists or new terrorist threats, the video just happens to get released when support must be renewed for the war on terrorism or anti terrorist legislation. With Afghanistan now laid to waste, Bush needs support to carry on the war in a number of other nations.

The media coverage focuses on the reactions of the grieving relatives of the September 11th victims, which also aids in creating an emotional response from the viewers. And of course our combined grief and anger is to be exploited and used as justification for more war and more bombing, maiming and killing.

Thousands of people die every day from hunger, disease and war. Many of them could be saved, but the TV Networks and the governments have no flowers or tears for them. They'd rather focus on victims from September 11th that can't be saved.

In some ways this is all like a strange nightmare. Day by day our rights and civil liberties have been tossed away in the war on terrorism. Now it's December 13th and we are living inside of "The Running Man" and a tacky society that convicts people with video tapes shown on the six o'clock news.

Guilty or not guilty, Osama is only a small part of the problem here. The corruption runs deep into the moral fabric (if there is any) of the leaders of our world. They think we are a dumbed-down mob to be exploited, when the truth is that we have the right to know all the facts about September 11th. We must be sure that Osama bin Laden is guilty, and that takes more than a crappy video tape … because if he isn't guilty, then someone else is and that person or persons must be at large and preparing the next stage of the terrorist plan.

We have the right to know. I wish we could know … but I don't think we ever will. Captain Freedom, BuzzSaw and some sinister Network have taken over.

In Afghanistan Western sponsored warlords have moved into Mazar-e Sharif. American generals are thrilled by the psychological victory and hope it will allow the coalition to continue the war with public support. This trump card will strengthen President Gen. Pervez Musharraf, the dictator they support in Pakistan, against the forces of organized labour which shut down that country the other day in opposition to the war. It will also be fuel for continuing the bombing war during the holy month of Ramadan and could work to silence those few remaining critics in the West that dare to speak out in the face of anti terrorist legislation and other forms of government, corporate and public pressure.

Here in Toronto Friday's Sun newspaper had a front page featuring George Bush and a khaki-outfitted fighter plane worker rolling out the bombs. "Let’s Roll," Bush is saying as we serve up bombs and doom to the Afghanis quicker than Ronald MacDonald can fire up Big Macs.

If Thursday looked a lot like Friday to me it was because I attended a small public debate where I came under attack by Canadians that were saying things like –"If seven million refugees get killed this winter in Afghanistan, they deserve it because their government is holding bin Laden, the guy who killed five thousand innocent people at the World Trade Center. This is justice."

Now it’s another Saturday anti war demonstration at the US Consulate. I'm catching my breath and wondering. Do we really live in Canada any more? Since when did we grant total support to warlords, dictators, bombs and holy war? Why are we calling genocide justice? Didn't Canada used to be a peacekeeping nation? Have we lost our marbles completely?

Before listening to folks champion War on Thursday I walked through the University of Toronto grounds and stopped at a ceremony on the Holocaust. Giant photos of victims lined the metal fence and inside speakers vowed to remember every name and all of those that perished. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN! they said.

"It won't?" I asked myself. "But if it won't happen, why is it happening in Afghanistan right now? And why are we part of the war coalition that is doing it? Is there something that makes people who died years ago more important the those that are suffering and dying today?"

As the news media makes a big deal of the capture of Mazar-e Sharif, a minor city in Afghanistan, only the BBC mentions the race to beat polio in Afghan refugee camps. These are the camps in Pakistan that aid workers can reach. Other refugees, up to seven million of them inside Afghanistan, will be doomed if polio or any other disease begins to spread. That 's because there isn't any medicine or any way to deliver it in a war zone.

Even if disease is kept under control, mass death has already begun through starvation and as winter begins a mountain of corpses will rise beside the mountains of snow. The only hope the refugees have is for a ceasefire and a massive delivery of aid. In the West we know that and yet our war coalition has plans to continue with the bombs and the war. At the United Nations, a corrupt security council is already preparing for this mass death with statements blaming the Taliban for it. As if the coalition isn't playing a big role in it.

When we blame the Taliban, perhaps we should ask ourselves how the Taliban came about? And the answer is that the CIA created them and promoted Osama bin Laden in a past war when the Soviets were in Afghanistan. It was the same sort of thing in Iraq, where the CIA killed off a populist government and gave us the dictatorship that led to Saddam. The West warred against Saddam and defeated him, yet left him in power because the CIA wanted him there as a check on Iran. Rebels tried to overthrow Saddam and again the CIA worked to make sure they didn't succeed. So we still have Saddam and in the intervening years, though the media hasn't reported it, more air strikes have been flown against Iraq than were flown in the entire war on Yugoslavia. Sanctions led by the US, against this dictator the US keeps in power, have killed 500,000 children.

In the USA many of the key players in the Bush administration are also chief officers of the corporations that supply bombs and weapons. Meaning that guys like Saddam and wars that never end are a big source of money for them. (for more info on this see the article by former US Special Operatons guy Stan Goff at http://www.interlog.com/~cjazz/goff.htm)

Imagine yourself running a war and profiting from it, too. You wouldn't want the bombs to be all that effective so you could use more, and you would want the battle to go on and on. That is what is happening in Afghanistan.

War on Terror has become war for profit and other larger motives and US generals are now saying that this phase of the war does not have much to do with capturing Osama bin Laden.

There is unrest across the Middle East. War during Ramadan could explode into a conflict more hideous than the one we already have and the mass death of refugees will insure that a whole new breed of vengeful terrorists will do anything to get even with the West. In the news today bin Laden announced that he has nuclear weapons and he will use them if we use nuclear and biological weapons on him. These would be dirty suitcase bombs terrorists could unleash anywhere.

The whole thing is a formula for HOLYCAUST. Because of our war mongering and stupidity, mass death and genocide could reign supreme.

If you're wondering how Osama bin Laden could get chemical and nuclear weapons, try taking a look at how Saddam got his deadliest weapons. He got them because the US and Britain sold them to him. It is suspected that bin Laden got his through purchases from a collapsing Soviet Union and his involvement with the CIA.

It is probably safe to say that the group responsible for the most death and dictatorship in the world is the CIA. So if we want to end any reign of terror maybe should start by altering their mandate. And follow up by looking at our own crazy foreign policy. The West has armed all sides against each other. We arm the Israelis and the Arabs. Our nuclear policies are dangerous. New Democrat Leader Alexa McDonough says that Candu nuclear reactors we sell are used in nuclear weapons production. They provided the seeds for nuclear weapons in India and in Pakistan.

Right now a revolution in Pakistan could lead to warheads falling into bin Laden's hands and the USA has plans to attempt to dismantle them quickly if things get out of control. This situation could have been avoided completely if we had not sold them a Candu.

Isn't it strange that under anti terrorist legislation I'd be in jail for ever if I sold a pea shooter to suspected terrorists, yet our government can fund nuclear capabilities world wide. Right at this moment weapons-grade uranium produced by Candus is on the black market.

Today we know that we're faced with an al-Qaeda terrorist group that possesses chemical and crude nuclear weapons. Yet our Western sponsored war in Afghanistan is one against the poorest refugees on earth and for economic gain. The oil men forming the Bush administration see a new Silk Road in pipeline routes for Central Asian oil and gas through Afghanistan. Reserves within Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan could service Europe's oil needs for 11 years.

Bush would like to get a stable coalition government in Afghanistan, but can't see that the pipeline plan is a pipe dream. It won't work because you can't win a war in Afghanistan. The warlords shift alliances daily so any government we create through war will collapse and the plan will fail.

Peace and aid combined with carrot and stick diplomacy is the only plan that can work. If the West really wants bin Laden it wouldn’t be hard to get some sort of coalition agreement in Afghanistan in place long enough to get bin Laden turned over to a court. We could then use the UN, aid agencies and peacekeeping mechanisms to attempt to retain peace and rebuild most of Afghanistan. No plan would succeed fully in a place like that but working to build trust through aid and development would be a beginning.

Time is running out. The body count is rising and much of it is in areas we can't see. As the continued fighting isolates various regions of the country the plague of death will spread in darkness. The first victims will be the women and girls of Afghanistan. The CIA-created Taliban and other warlord gangs in the country do not value women or respect their rights. Now that supplies are running low any food or medicine that isn't confiscated for military use will be used to save the lives of men and boys. They will try to save the males while leaving the women to die.

Starvation, disease and discrimination against women are only three of the deadly horsemen in this nightmare. A fourth is civil war. The bombing and close fighting in the streets and countryside will kill and maim many innocent people. Today George Bush said that he doesn't want his allies, the northern alliance to move into Kabul. The Americans are now supposedly favouring an alliance of sorts with the Taliban controlling some parts of Afghanistan. Though that is only posturing for the media. Bush's real fears are that the northern alliance will commit atrocities in Kabul. Such a massacre of the civilian population will leave our Western war alliance in a mess that even media propagandists won't be able to cover up. Fighting in Kabul would also mean that the war alliance would have to stop bombing there and Bush doesn't want to do that as bombing is profitable.

People have to act now because Bush's advisors feel that the mass death of refugees through disease and starvation can be hidden or blamed on the Taliban. Promoting his war on terror today, George Bush said, "Civilisation itself - the civilisation we share - is threatened. History will record our response and judge or justify every nation in this hall."

He is right that there will be judgement, and if a ceasefire is not declared immediately, history will judge us in the West as perpetrators of genocide. The Taliban will be judged, too … and the masterminds of this war will go down as the greatest hypocrites in history. All the time talking about justice, morality and holiness while at the same time giving the world a HOLYCAUST.

If any of them really believed in God they wouldn't be waging a war of misery against the Earth … and if they fear anything it must be that there might really be a God and the punishment they deserve.

In the West our responsibility is the greatest. We have the education and knowledge. There aren't any valid excuses we can make to justify this war.  We must act to end it now because that is the responsible and moral thing to do.
